Another extension has been granted for the first phase of a proposed development on Flagstaff Mountain in Mahoning Township.
Supervisors on Monday granted an extension until Feb. 28 for Phase 1A of the Sierra Vista Estates that Jake Arner of Awesome View Properties has proposed.
Arner proposed a short-term rental ordinance for the area, for which given the right conditions, a property could be rented out rather than foreclosed upon.
Arner’s potential investors seemed quite interested in bringing this concept to the Mahoning area, as it would bring additional revenue from tourists staying at these properties.
In November, supervisors tabled Sierra Vista, Phase 1A, and granted an extension of time to Sierra Vista Phase 1A to Dec. 31.
In August, the Carbon County Planning Commission recommended the conditional plan approval for Phase 1A of the proposed development.
Before the recommendation, Arner told the commission that Phase 1A includes 17 lots, while Phase 1B will eventually include 53 lots.
Arner noted at that time there were some reservations, including the firms putting all of the estimated $3.5 million for the phases up already; as well as what the future of the real estate economy will be.
In July 2019, supervisors approved a preliminary approval for the project on the recommendation of the township planning commission.
