Cottonwood to Host the 28th Annual Classic Run by the Coronary heart of Arizona's Wine Nation on June 12th – Flagstaff Enterprise Information

½ marathon, 10 km, 5 km and 2 mile races offer runners – and wine lovers – a variety of ways to take in the scenic views.

On Saturday, June 12th at 6:00 am, the town of Cottonwood will host its 28th annual Vintage Run (formerly known as the Brian Mickelsen Marathon, in honor of one of Cottonwood's former town managers). After the 2020 run was canceled due to COVID-19, it is returning with limited start times to encourage social distancing and keep everyone safe. This beautiful race offers a ½ marathon, 10 km and 2 mile races through the most beautiful views in the region.

Details about each race are:

½ marathon:

Starting at 6 a.m., participants can run or stroll through the historic Cottonwood of Old Town, along the rolling hills to Sycamore Canyon Road to Tuzigoot National Monument, where the Sinagua Native Americans once lived. The trail heads into Dead Horse Ranch State Park on a short series of trails overlooking the beautiful Verde River.


An evening run that starts at 5:00 p.m. The 10 km long trail winds through the beautiful Dead Horse Ranch State Park between Sycamore Canyon and Mingus Mountain.


On an evening run that begins at 5:30 PM, runners race through the heart of Arizona wine country in historic Old Town Cottonwood and through the natural canopy of the state park's beautiful Jail Trail.

2 miles:

An evening run that begins at 6:00 p.m. allows participants to run or walk from the Riverfront Ramada area to the main gate of Dead Horse Ranch State Park and back. This route is pretty flat, but the scenery is breathtaking.

Registration for the 28th annual Vintage Run is now open. Early bird prices are available through April 30, 2021.

For the ½ marathon: $ 50 (March 20 – April 30), $ 60 (May 1 – June 10), or $ 70 per day.

For the 10K run: $ 30 (March 20 – April 30), $ 40 (May 1 – June 10), or $ 50 per day.

For the 5K: $ 25 (March 20th – April 30th), $ 35 (May 1st – June 10th), or $ 45 a day.

For the 2 mile: $ 20 (March 20 – April 30), $ 25 (May 1 – June 10), or $ 30 per day.
